A statement issued a short while ago states that people should pay attention to the announcements made by the Police and other disaster management authorities and not to listen to the rumours.
The Disaster Management Center says that though the water levels in the Nilwala, and Ging rivers has reduced the risky situation has not reduced yet.
Meanwhile, the government says the rumour that the walls built to prevent floods in and around Matara have been demolished to reduce the water levels in the Matara River are false.
However, the public is requested to move away from these walls as these walls can collapse due to the heavy water level in the river.
