    President to meet Task Force on Dengue prevention today

    President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to call a meeting of thePresidential Task Force on Dengue Prevention to discuss the urgent steps to be taken to prevent the sudden outbreak of Dengue.

    The Meeting will be held today (16th May) under the patronage of the President at the President’s office.

     

    Upto May this year the number of Dengue patients has increased to 44,623 while there were 115 deaths during the same period.

     

    In 2014, 47,246 Dengue patients were reported while there were 97 deaths and the health authorities were able to reduce the number of Dengue patients to 29,777 and deaths to 60 by 2015. Again in 2016 the number of patients was increased to 55,150 and deaths to 90.

     

    According to inspected statistics of mosquito larvae and patients, Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Jaffna Kurunegala, Puttlam, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Matara have been identified as the high risk areas.

     

    Considering this critical situation the urgent steps to be taken to control the spread of Dengue will be discussed at the meeting.
