    14th UN Vesak Day Celebration begins tomorrow in Colombo Featured

    The 14th UN Vesak Day Celebration and the International Buddhist Summit themed “Buddhist Teachings for Social Justice and Sustainable World Peace” will begin tomorrow (12th May) at 9.00 a.m. at the BMICH and end on 14th May.

    The Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony will be the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

     

    About 1000 Buddhist delegates including heads of states representing 85 countries will be present at the Conference.

     

    Visiting PM Modi is scheduled to deliver a special address at the Conference while President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minster Ranil Wickremesinghe, and the Minister of Justice and Buddhasasana Wijayadasa Rajapaksha will address the occasion.

     

    Chief Prelates of the three – Nikayas, local and foreign maha sangha, and other religious dignitaries will attend the occasion.

     

    A first day cover commemorating the 14th UN Vesak Day Celebration will be issued on this occasion.
