According to him, during the first 10 days of the amnesty, 02 officers and 1584 other ranks of the Army, 162 Navy personnel, and 02 officers and 67 other ranks of the Air Force have reported back to their respective service centers seeking legal discharge. Out of those, one officer and 1256 other ranks of the army have already obtained their legal discharge while the officers and other ranks of Navy and Air Force are yet to be informed their discharge after the clearance. The other officer and the ranks of the Army will also be discharged legally soon after the problems pertaining to their service are solved.

The Tri forces personnel considered as Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) can produce themselves at their respective service Headquarters or Regimental Centers and obtain their legal discharge during the amnesty period. This is the second General Amnesty of this year offered to the tri forces deserter. The first was in effect from 13th June to 12th July. Those who have yet to report are encouraged do so before the General Amnesty ends on December 31st.

Further speaking to us, Brigadier Senevirathne said that there would be no extension of the amnesty and assured disciplinary actions for other deserters.
