'Virusara' privilege card is one of the projects initiated by the State Minister Wijewardene under the directions of the President Maithripala Sirisena. It is aimed at enhancing welfare facilities of War Heroes and their families and thereby assisting them to uplift their living standards. Up to now 25,000 war heroes and their families are enjoying the Virusara benefits and it is planned to distribute to another 25000 beneficiaries next year.
State Minister while denying the false allegations on national security spread by extremists, stressed that the national security is concerned as an utmost important factor while moving towards reconciliation. He noted that all societies should be united as the country is on its way for a better future.
The Virusara card project was launched as a service and to offer tribute for war heroes who fought a three decade long war. He also said that President as the Commander in chief of the armed forces had always instructed to give priority for national security, and to solve problems of war heroes and to look in to their welfare.
State Minister Wijewardene also presented land deeds and scholarships to war heroes and their children respectively.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence A.P.G Kithsiri, Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, and senior officers of tri forces and police were also present at the occasion.
