A haul of locally manufactured guns were recovered and the owner of the factory was arrested after a raid was carried out on an illegal arms manufacturing plant in Poonakary in Kilinochchi.While inspecting the plant, the owner had been in hiding making other shotguns, Kris and swords. Poonakary police and the Army launched a search operation and the owner was arrested in connection with the discovery of nine guns completed.
Eight locally made double barreled guns, seven swords, items used for the manufacture of guns were also recovered.Information has also been received that an ordinary gun manufactured by the suspect has been sold to various individuals at Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 400,000. The police have received information that the purchase of these guns is mostly done by farmers to ward off wild animals.The suspect will be produced before the Kilinochchi Court.
