    11th drug manufacturing factory to be built

    Recently Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne laid the foundation stone for the 11th drug manufacturing factory to be set up in Sri Lanka, Health Ministry spokesman said.According to the spokesman, this is the second drug manufacturing factory to be set up by Navesta Company and it provides employments for 60 youths. The cost of the project is Rs. 800 million.

    The second factory to be set up at Millaniya, Horana. The first factory of the company provided employments for 140 youths and now it is producing 12 varieties of antibiotics. The production goes to the Medical Supplies Division of the Health Ministry, he said.

    Up to now a total of 36 companies had been signed agreements with the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation to produce drugs in Sri Lanka. It is expected to produce 85 percent of the entire drug requirement of ri Lanka within the country by 2020, he added.
