The innermost area of historical Sigiriya was declared a garbage-free zone from February 1 by the Central Cultural Fund.Accordingly, tourists should not bring food packets covered with polythene or other covers when entering that zone while cooked food and short eats are strictly prohibited, Sigiriya Cultural Triangle Project Manager M. M. Nishantha said.
Labeled and other polythene covered bottled water should not be brought to the garbage-free zone. A bag has been introduced to tourists by the management to collect their waste without scattering them in the area.On the way back, tourists can collect their leftover bags from the authorities before leaving.
The authorities request tourists to extend their cooperation in keeping the premises garbage-free.
