The election for the Diyawadana Nilame post is conducted by the Buddhist Affairs Commissioner will be held at the Kandy Buddhist Centre Hall at Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Kandy.

Four candidates are vying for the coveted office of the lay custodian of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Chief Administrator of the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Among those contesting are Pradeep Nilanga Dela, who is the acting Diyawadana Nilame since his term of office ended in June this year, former Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne, Basnayaka Nilame of Sri Natha Devale, Kandy attorney Gayan Heenkenda and a former Basnayaka Nilame Sudantha Senanayaka.

The term of Diyawadana Nilame is ten years.
