    August 01, 2015

A woman's body found in a travelling bag at the Bastian Mawatha private-bus terminal in Pettah on Wednesday, has been identified as that of a 34-year-old woman from Vaddukoddai, Jaffna, police said.

Following the release of the woman's photo to the media, the manager of an inn in Hettiyawatta, Colombo, where the woman was staying with an unidentified male, has come forward to provide the information on her to the police.

Police said the deceased has rented the room under the name R. Karthika and she was from Vadukoddai, Jaffna.

According to the information obtained by the police, the woman's husband has gone abroad for employment and she was reportedly having an affair with another man.

Police have reportedly obtained CCTV camera footage of the man leaving the inn with a large travelling bag.

Police began investigating the incident after a group of commuters Wednesday morning spotted the abandoned bag near the queue for the Anuradhapura bus and found a female body in it.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that further investigations are still ongoing and that no arrests have been made so far. Investigations are continuing to find her male companion and to ascertain whether he was responsible for her death.
