It was announced at the Cabinet briefing that based on a directive by President Maithripala Sirisena, approval has been granted to promote the exportation of Gyrinopswalla (Wallapatta) and cultivate the plant based on commercial value.
Highest priced perfumes are made in France from Wallapatta(Gyrinops walla). It was brought to light by frequent raids on people having this product for illegal export.
An official would be appointed to issue a permit to allow the possession and transportation of the plant. Gyrinopswalla plant was included in the red list prepared in 2012
