Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Maheepala said.that India had banned the sale of Maggi noodles after quality tests proved that it contained an excessive amount of lead in the additives which was harmful to the human body.
As such, samples of Maggi noodles found in the Sri Lankan market had already been sent to the Industrial Technology Institute Laboratory for testing and for a report on its ingredients. Steps would be taken in the next few days to send samples of other varieties of noodles too for testing and report, he further said.
If there was any adverse report saying that these samples contained harmful ingredients, steps would be taken to prohibit the sale of such varieties in the country, he added.
