About 65% of the total petroleum demand of Sri Lanka is being fulfilled by importing refined products. About 30% out of that refined petroleum product is unloaded to the Muthurajawela Oil Terminal and the balance is being unloaded to Kolonnawa Oil Terminal. When unloading fuel to Kolonnawa Oil Terminal, those are transported about 06 km from the Dolphin Jetty in Colombo Port to Kolonnawa Terminal via pipelines. Though the pipelines of this way are much old from 40 to 70 years, they have been built giving a certification of 2.5 years of lifetime. Therefore, those pipelines are in a very bad condition at present.
