Country needs an opposition that acts without greed for power - Asgiriya Mahanayake Featured

    June 09, 2015

“No sane or level headed person will resort to such lowly acts like tabling a No Confidence Motion at a time like this,”  Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadassi Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.Thera said.

The prelate further explaining said that at a time when a national government headed by the President and the Prime Minister is in operation, the action taken by a group of opposition MPs to table a No Confidence Motion against the Prime Minister can never be condoned,

The country needs an opposition acting for the country’s progress without sheer greed for power, the Mahanayake Thera pointed out.

The Mahanayake Thera said the country would stand to gain and no foreign country would be able to harm its image or take it to task if the two main parties joined hands and worked in unison.

He said a newly elected government should be allowed a reasonable space of time to implement its policies for the benefit of the country.

The prelate expressed these views when Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella called on him at the temple in Kandy and received his blessings on Monday (08).
