According to the sources, 53,885 premises were inspected for dengue mosquito larvae and possible dengue mosquito breeding sites during the National Mosquito Control Week from June 4 to 6 in 10 districts. The programme covered Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Kandy, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ratnapura districts.
Dengue mosquito larvae was found in 1,269 premises while 1,000 were found from the Western Province.
Notices were issued to owners at 1,753 premises of which 1,512 were from the Western Province, they said. Thirteen out of every 100 houses in the Colombo city harbour dengue mosquito breeding spots.
Colombo district had the highest number of dengue mosquito breeding sites (400) while legal action will be taken against 214 premises in Colombo, the sources said.
