CAA to re-examine standard of bottled water

    May 22, 2015

The Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA) has taken a decision to examine the standards of the bottled water sold in the market as it has been reported that certain bottled water is not suitable for drinking.

Bottled water is on sale in the market in different brands. The examination of the quality of bottled water commenced in February this year and it was revealed that many of the products were not fit for human consumption.

The Consumer Affairs Authority claimed that it had received public complaints that bottled water sold in congested areas such as in the Pettah Bus Stand, Goonesinghepura Bus Stand and at the Colombo Fort Railway Station are not up to proper standards.

The Authority had taken necessary initiatives to direct some samples taken from these locations to the Government Analyst. Accordingly the Consumer Affairs Authority said that the standard of bottled water countrywide would be re-examined.
