The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) said that action is being being taken to set up free WiFi Zones at trade centres.
A release issued by the ICTA said that under the project of setting up 1,000 WiFi Zones with free internet facilities throughout the island, WiFi Zones will be set up at all dedicated economic centres, enabling all sellers and buyers at these centres to carry out their business activities without any hindrance. The free WiFi facility is already in place at the dedicated economic centre in Narahenpita, Tripoli trade centre in Maradana and the floating trade complex in Colombo Fort.
By now 100 free WiFi zones have been set up throughout the country. The first free WiFi zone under this project was set up by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Colombo Fort Railway station in March 2015 and already 100 free WiFi Zones have been set up throughout the country.
