“There are about 100 million Buddhists in China. The Buddhists in China and Sri Lanka enjoy a long history. There are only two tooth relics of the Buddha - one is in Sri Lanka and the other is in China. The Buddhist Society of China has maintained a very good relationship with Sri Lanka and undertaken a lot of beneficial exchanges,” Ambassador Yi said issuing a statement.
China is a good friend, good neighbour and good partner of Sri Lanka. China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to Sri Lanka for the people’s well-being and economic development of the island country, he said.
“China would like to continue to promote the Buddhist exchanges between the countries, including the Buddhism-oriented tourism. China appreciates the important role played by all the Chapters of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in promoting the friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” the envoy said.
“It is our hope and belief that the Maha Sangha of Sri Lanka will continue to make positive efforts in promoting the friendship and mutual cooperation between the two countries,” Ambassador Yi said.
