The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a gazette notice directing all traders to install weighing scales approved by the Measurement Units Standards and Services Department at their outlets.
CAA Media Spokesman Udayajeewa Ekanayake said this will enable the public to weigh their goods prior to purchasing them at trade outlets.
He said a number of public complaints have been received regarding underweight goods purchased. "The public can complain to the CAA if traders continue to sell underweight goods," he said.
