    Pilgrims Rest in Lumbini Featured

    A Pilgrims Rest will be opened next month at the birth place of the Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal for pilgrims, Buddha Sasana, Public Administration and Democratic Governance Minister Karu Jayasuriya said at a ceremony held at the ministry yesterday where three stamps were issued to mark the National Vesak Week.

    Minister said the Vesak festival will ensure truth and justice in the country and that the Buddhasasana Ministry has rendered an immense service to strengthen Buddhism in Sri Lanka as well as in foreign countries. "Many temples in rural areas have been renovated providing facilities. Buddhist practices are becoming more widely accepted in the world. Buddhism will become a promising religion in the future. People can see an increased popularity of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. This would generate to create a better society and to build a strong foundation among the communities," he added.


    The minister said many policies and programmes will be initiated by the Buddhasasana Ministry in the future to secure the Buddhist culture.
