    Govt. fulfills a pledge given to tea smallholders

    The Government of Sri Lanka launched a program to provide relief to the tea smallholders of the country as part of its 100 day programme.

    In the 100 days programme of the present government it was proposed to pay a guaranteed price of Rs. 80 per kilogram of raw and tender tea leaves produced by small scale tea estate holders. Accordingly, Minister of Plantation Industry Lakshman Kiriella launched the first phase of the program on Saturday (18) morning at the Kalubovitiyana Tea Factory premises in Morawaka.

     

    The government through its 100 day programme has also granted a guaranteed price of Ra. 50 for a kilo of paddy and a guaranteed price for rubber.

     

    Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka and Prime Minister's Chief of staff Sagala Ratnayake were among those present on the occasion.
