    Vocational training programmes for disabled youth

    The Ministry of Social Services, Welfare and Livestock Development is to provide relief and rehabilitation to the disadvantaged and suffering segments of the society and make them stakeholders in the development process by preventing them falling in to such conditions.

    The Objectives of this steps are to ensure equal right and vocational skills of the disabled persons while rehabilitating drug addicts. Other objectives are to enhance the knowledge and skills of officers who provide services for the disabled persons and to empower the voluntary organizations that provide services to the disabled

     

    Accordingly the Ministry is conducting vocational training programs for the disabled youth at vocational training centers under the Dept.of Social Services at Seeduwa, Ketawala, Thelambuyaya,Wattegama, and Amunukumbura centers providing them with tool kits for self- employment, employment opportunities and artificial limbs and also monitoring vocational training programs conducted by voluntary organizations for the disabled youth at their vocational training centers and providing them with tool kits and financial assistance for self-employment.

     

    Apart from that the Ministry is conducting early intervention programs at the child guidance services center at Navinna, Maharagama for children with special needs and detoxifying of drug addicts, conducting community based rehabilitation programmes and providing vocational training, counseling, and other requisite services (Navodaya and Puwakpitiya centers) conducting drug prevention programs at divisional secretariat level for youth.
