During a raid carried out on a tip off received by the Public Health Inspectors Office, 1500 kilograms of spoilt potatoes had been seized from the Galenbindunuwewa Weekly Fair.
The Public Health Inspectors had found that this stock of potatoes had been brought from the Dambulla Economic Centre.
The raid was carried out in line with the programme launched by the government to nab nab traders who sell food unsuitable for human consumption during the festive season.
The Public Health Inspectors have taken action to destroy the seized potatoes and had alerted the public to be careful when purchasing food items.
