    Our aim is to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in fuel by 2020 - Minister Ranawaka

    Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said his aim was to make the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) one of the most competitive institutions in the world.

    Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Petroleum Dealers’ Association at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute The Minister said The CPC has Rs 1.5 billion business each day.A few but powerful extortionist groups are involved in oil importation and distribution and the new government's intention is to make this process independent. For that purpose the government has appointed professionals to head both the CPC and the CEB added the Minister and said that there is no room for extortionists in the power and energy sector under the present administration.

     

    In the event of any group or individual demanding ransoms or commissions in the power and energy sector, the Minister requested to directly report to him about them.

     

    Minister Ranawaka emphasised that the government's intention is to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in fuel by 2020 as had become self-sufficient from rice.
