    MoU between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Disaster Management

    A Memorandum of Understanding between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on disaster management has been drafted with the purpose of strengthening mutual cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan with regard to disaster management and formulating an effective disaster management methodology through such cooperation.

    Accordingly, through the implementation of the aforesaid memorandum of understanding, it is expected to formulate provisions required to act with excellent cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the disaster management process and establish a suitable disaster management process that benefits both countries by means of such provisions: Recommendations made by the Ministry of Irrigation and Agriculture and the Ministry of Power and Energy too have been incorporated into this draft memorandum.

     

    The objective of the draft memorandum of understanding between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on disaster management is the development of voluntary early warnings and leg~ provisions that are required for the management of natural disasters such as tornados, floods, tsunamis, land slides and droughts through sharing experiences related to disaster management between the two parties.

     

    In order to achieve these' objectives, the parties are expected to work in collaboration for which purpose projects identified by experts in the relevant institutions and agreed by the two parties will be implemented; formulate training, conferences and workshops for awareness capacity building through institutions related to disaster management in the two countries; and share experiences related to the management of disasters including floods, tsunamis, droughts and landslides.
