    CAA continues raids to nab errant traders

    The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA,) by increasing its raid on consumer outlets island wide has already detected over 700 traders selling their products above the gazetted prices and filed court cases against 200 of them.The CAA said that cases against the remaining traders will be fined before the end of this month and regular checks will be carried out to check whether traders are selling their products above the newly revised prices.

    The government reduced the prices of 13 consumer items in the interim budget under its 100-day program last month and raids are being carried out to ensure that the public benefits from the reduced prices provided by the government under its 100-day program.The items included wheat flour, bread, chilli powder, corriander, sprats and milk powder.

     

    Fines from Rs 10,000 for small time traders to Rs 100,000 for large companies as well as jail term up to six months will be imposed on those selling these items above the gazetted prices.
