Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated to the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the iconic Jaffna Cultural Centre held on Saturday (14) at the auditorium of Jaffna Public library.
It is planned to build as a Cultural Centre of international standards with all facilities. 1.2 Billion rupees will be expended on the project.
Indian Prime minister was welcome at the event by Northern Province Chief Minister C V Vigneswaran.
While roads, airports and ports link people and show the development of a country, a library links generations of people and their histories to show the spiritual development of the people, PM Modi said at the event.
Modi added that India and Sri Lanka are not just neighbors but have cultural and historical links.
Modi assured the people of Jaffna that the task taken up by India in the construction of the cultural centre will be completed in time and will exceed their expectations.
Extending his solidarity with the people of Jaffna, Modi said, "Jaffna is making a new mark for itself. The world is experiencing the message of peace from here".
A 3d model of a Cultural Centre was presented by its architecture, Mr. Madhura Premathilaka while the ceremony. In accordance, the center will be included with a Cultural Museum, an Auditorium, a Public square, a learning square, a floating stage and a pedestrian strip.
