    Matara CAA earns over Rs. 2,299,500 as court fines

    The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Matara Branch has earned over Rs.2,299,500 in the form of court fines from errant traders through sudden raids and mobile inspections made in the district from January to December last year.

    According to CAA officials, 557 raids were made in 16 Divisional Secretariat Divisions. and have been able to detect displaying and selling food items unfit for human consumption, selling consumer items above the fixed rates, selling electrical appliances without warranty cards, selling expired food items, violating rules and regulations of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

     

    Offending vendors were prosecuted in the Magistrate's Courts of Matara, Deiyandara and Morawaka
