    Educationists praise President's decision

    Educationists have praised the decision taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to refrain from lining up school children at ceremonies attended by him. 

    In the ‘Maithree Pilisandara’  interview telecast over the National Television Channel Rupavahini on Saturday (Jan.31), the President said he had instructed that school children should not be brought to functions attended by him.  He had observed the fact that school children were forced to spend hours in the scorching sun till the president arrives.  He has specifically instructed the relevant officials to engage children only to sing the National Anthem and Jaya Mangala Gatha at the 67th Independence celebrations on 4 February 2015.

    He also recalled how school children were inconvenienced by being lined up along 3kms of the road during a student perahera while some boasted that it set a world record.  He said that he did not attend such ceremonies.

    Educationists praising the decision of the President on Sunday (01) said that engaging students for these, cause them inconvenience while also reducing their time for studies.
