Rainforest Protectors conducts Tree Planting Project in Atabade

    January 28, 2015

The Rainforest Protectors successfully completed a native tree planting project in a four-acre tea estate in Atabage, Gampola recently. Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka is a group of volunteers and sponsors dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka's last remaining rainforests through conservation, education and restoration.

A total of 70 native endemic trees such as Ginisapu, Nedun, Mee, Kumbuk, Ehela purchased from the Polgolla Forest Conservation Department Plant Nursery were planted to increase the bio-diversity in the area.

The newly planted trees will provide habitat and food to native species once established.

In addition to increasing the bio-diversity through planting native trees, Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka also hopes the project will raise awareness among Sri Lankans and that more will join towards making our country green and beautiful.

Fourteen volunteers participated in this program, ranging from children to senior citizens.
