The Second Language Unit of the National Languages and Humanities section of the Education Ministry had organized an Awards Ceremony covering the entire island on the theme ‘The appreciation of the second language’ at the Auditorium of the Education Ministry yesterday (16).
We have seen through experience that peace, co-existence, friendship and brotherhood on a national base have been hampered due to the allocation of schools on a communal basis. This has caused hatred between communities. Valuable lives and properties have been lost. This situation was not understood by anyone, excepting by our President who changed this set up and gave each and every one freedom to lead their own lives.
Today with the activation of the trilingual policy the Sinhala children in Deiyandara in the South are now learning Tamil well. The President has also given the children in the North and the South the opportunity to travel each other’s regions, in order to cultivate respect for each other’s cultures and to live together in brotherhood, the Minister further said.
The Minister for Education also stated that the President has instilled new hope in the minds of these children through forgetting the dark past and giving them a hope of a new dawn. He has paved the way for these children to beget what we have lost.
The Minister also pointed out that through the trilingual policy all people in our country live together with no differences or hatred. He also stated that a new record has been established by a child from the North in this year’s Pole Vault Competition.
Secretary to the Ministry Anura Dissanayake, and Addl.Secretary were also present.
