Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa has through the 'Janasevana' and 'Nagamu Purawara' programmes started a reconstruction programme at the Gunasinghepura Housing scheme. This is the 36th housing project under Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future. The Housing Development Authority has completed this programme together with the Sri Lanka Engineering Corporation.
The Gunasinghepura Housing Scheme that was completed in 1985 has 312 houses, 316 shops and also 8 legal offices. The reconstruction work consisted of repairing the roofs as well as the waste water and sewerage systems and also stopping the seeping of water into the houses. The reconstruction of the children’s park, the Buddhist Shrine and also fixing of new gates have been completed. A modern physical training centre has also been added. The cost of the project is Rs.133.5 million.
The residents presented Minister Wimal Weerawansa a memento as a mark of gratitude.
