According to the Ministry about 5,000 acres of barren land could be brought under the plough after renovating the tanks. The tanks will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 200 million with the new Budget funds.

The North Western Province Ministry of Agriculture has taken steps to rehabilitate forty tanks in the Kurunegala district under an accelerated program by the North Western Province Agriculture Department.
