A programme to reconstruct tanks and canals within the Matara District has been launched parallel to the 2015 Deyata Kirula National Development Project.
The reconstruction of the Makavita tank and canal of Matara under this programme was launched under the patronage of Deputy Minister Sanath Jayasuriya. Its total expenditure will be in the region of six million rupees.
The Economic Development Ministry is providing the required grants. The reconstruction of the tank and canal will help cultivate around 2000 acres of paddy land in the area.
