Govt. to make all employees recruited to CEB through Manpower Agencies, permanent

    November 20, 2014

Immediate steps have been taken to make nearly 5000  workers recruited to the Ceylon Electricity Board through Manpower Agencies, permanent.

Minister of Power and Energy Pavithra Wanniarachchi , announced that depending on qualifications, these workers will be absorbed into the permanent  cadre of the Ceylon Electricity Board with effect from 1st December 2014.

This was stated by the  Minister at a special media conference held at the Ministry of Power and Energy on Thursday  (20)'.

Speaking further at the media conference the  Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, stated that  Personally  the Ceylon Electricity Board has been obtaining the services of Manpower Agencies for  many years.

These people who  serve under these Manpower  Agencies have been agitating for a long time  and requesting both me and our Government to give them some redress  and telling us about their problems. Therefore we have taken a decision, both as a Government and specially on the instructions of His Excellency the President,  to  make these brothers and sisters permanent employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

President Mahinda Rajapakse stated at the recent Budget presentation that all  those who are working in Government Departments, Corporations,  and Statutory bodies on a temporary basis will be made permanent. Based on this decision it was  made easy for us to absorb these workers in  to the permanent Cadre of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

It was decided that specially, even if those brothers and sisters who serve under these Manpower  Agencies  on casual basis ,or contract basis did not serve  the institution, the  wish of the Government was to make all workers working under these manpower agencies permanent in the Ceylon  Electricity Board. Accordingly these workers will enter the Ceylon Electricity Board as permanent workers with effect from 1st December 2014.

Minister  Pavithra Wanniarachchi  stated that ,as per  the  recruitment procedure  this recruitment will take place  according to theirqualifications.

Taking part in this Media conference was  the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy, Mr. M.M.C. Ferdinando, Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Mr. W.B. Ganegala, Private Secretary to the Hon Minister of Power and Energy Mr. Kanchana Jayaratne and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy Mr.  M.I.M. Rafeek.
