    1021 students from Gampaha district receive Mahapola scholarships Featured

    Presentation of Mahapola Higher Education scholarships to students admitted to universities from the Gampaha District for academic year 2011/12 was held with the patronage of Mrs. Pushpa Rajapaksa, Attorney at Law and the Chairperson of “Liya Abhiman” Organization on April 24 at Rathnavali Balika College, Gampaha. A batch of 1021 students received Mahapola scholarship awards at this ceremony.  Ceremony organized by the Gampaha District Secretariat and Mahapola Scholarship Trust Fund.

    Addressing the gathering Cooperative and Internal Trade Deputy Minister Hemal Gunasekara cited that the Mahapola scholarship would be increased from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 5000 in the near future. Deputy Minister further said that around 13500 students have been selected as recipients of the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship for academic year 2011/12.

     

    Felix Perera, Minister of Social Services, Deputy Minister Pandu Bandaranayaka, Western Provincial Council Chairman Sunil Wijerathna, District Secretary J.J. Rathnasiri,  Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya Prof. Sunanda Madduma Bandara and Western Provincial Council Members also graced the occasion.
