    UDA undertakes Kurunegala lake beautification project

    The Urban Development Authority has already undertaken the beautification of Kurunegala Lake surroundings as one of the priority projects with a view to enhance the aesthetic condition of the town while 

    The Lake beautification project include 3.5 km length jogging track with cycle lane, planting of trees, providing vehicular parking bases, triming of existing trees, lighting of project area, street furniture, rest rooms, gymnasium etc.


    The UDA has prepared a plan including above features and the total project cost is worked out to Rs.217.00 million.


    Kurunegala town is being developed as the main Urban Center in the North Western Province. Although the population within the municipal limit is recorded as 30,000, the daily commuter population is around 0.5 Milllon and the town is growing fast due to facilities available with road linkages.

    Therefore, it has become necessary to provide open spaces and recreational and leisure areas to cater to the present and future demand of the population. 


    The UDA being the main planning agency is guiding the development based on the town development plan while implementing the action projects.
