    Mother Sri Lanka Trust & Army Organize North - South Friendship Programme in Jaffna

    In a complementary programme to the Deepavali that fell on 22nd, Army in collaboration with Mother Sri Lanka Trust organized a friendly tour from the South to North Friday (24). A group of 100 children including schoolchildren, teachers and 50 students from University of Moratuwa arrived in Jaffna Friday afternoon in “Yarl Devi” to take part in a series of programme joined by about 150 Jaffna children.

    A warm welcome was extended to the multi-religious group from the South on “North south Friendship Bridge” by their northern counterparts on arrival in Jaffna railway station and later all shared views at tea organized with traditional eatables at J/Vembady Girls’ High School. Dinner was hosted for visitors and Jaffna children at Kankesanthurai Thalsevana Holiday Resort followed by entertainment programme where traditional performance of both cultures.

     

    At the workshop attended by over 400 youths and adults at Weerasingham Hall on Saturday (25), educative and motivation lectures were conducted by Mr. S. Sathyaseelan, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Northern Province, Major General Udaya Perera, Commander Security Force Jaffna, Ms. Janaki Kuruppu, President Mother Sri Lanka Trust and a few others.

     

    Later, all joined at the grand musical evening held at Durayappah stadium which entertained a massive crowd gathered to the venue in thousands.

     

    The team Colombo team left Jaffna Sunday (26) morning by the train.(EB/KH)
