The pest control project is implemented in 11 selected Grama Niladhari divisions in the Kegalle and Rambukkana divisional secretariats of the Kegalle District.
The CCB regional office has increased the awareness of the red-beetle threat among coconut cultivators and 1,000 pheromone traps would be distributed among them. An official of the CCB regional office said that thousands of coconut cultivators of the Kegalle District had been battered by the red-beetle menace affecting their cultivations could be afforded relief as the pests could be captured in the pheromone trap. The cultivators would be given technical know-how of the way the traps operate and how to dispose the captures beetles so that they could arrest the trend of spread in short period of time, the official added.
