The Government is taking measures to launch a program to rehabilitate the drug addicts instead of imprisoning them, in order to reduce the congestion in the country's prisons.
It has been found that there is a huge congestion in prisons due to a large number of drug addicted prisoners.
The NDDCB had taken measures to rehabilitate drug addicts under the instructions of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
