    Sri Lanka Police nab 65 under PTA

    Sri Lanka Police have arrested around 65 persons on charge of harbouring terrorists.

     

    Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told the media Thursday that the arrests were made within a span of two months under Sri Lanka's Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) by the officers of the Terrorist Investigations Department and Intelligence Units on suspicion of trying to rebuild the Tiger terrorist outfit in a span of two months Most of the arrested suspects are from Northern and Eastern provinces.

     

    The arrests, the Police Spokesman said, were also in connection with the police’s search for three main suspects allegedly involved in mobilising funds and carrying out activities that pose a threat to the security of the country. The suspects are held in the detention centres in Boossa near Galle and in Vavuniya and the Police have so far unearthed valuable information with regard to activities of the LTTE supporters he added.

     

    SSP Rohana said the government has granted permission to officials of the ICRC and other humanitarian organisations to visit the prisoners.
