The Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade said that a sum of more than 266 million rupees had been earned from the sale of rice. The programme to sell rice at reduced prices through tSathosa was launched from the 12th of this month. A kilo of samba is sold at 76 rupees while a kilo of white raw rice is sold at 64 rupees. White Nadu is sold at 67 rupees.
The first stage of this programme was launched within the Colombo, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Kandy and Badulla Districts. The Ministry said that the programme is planned to be launched countrywide.
