The Ministry of Sugar Cultivation Development has taken step to cultivate sugarcane in three thousand seven hundred and fifty hectare in the Badulla district.
The program would be implemented in fifteen DS areas in the district and 5,000 farmers would be self employed, based on sugar production. A retail outlet would also be set up for the sale of the packeted sugar.
Steps have also been taken to produce carbonic sugar for export purposes and the sugar production would be increased by 20,000 metric tons.
