The Government Information Department by holding seminars of this nature does an immense service by creating an environment to disclose the true picture of government's development programmes to the nation said Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs W.D.J.Senevirathne.

He was addressing the Ratnapura District Journalists at the Media Seminar held at the Silver Ray Hotel in Lellopitiya, Ratnapura. The theme of the seminar was "The Role of Provincial Journalists for District Development".

The Minister said that this seminar is very important to him as it will enable him to apprise the journalists of the development programmes in the Ratnapura District.

Today, the Ratnapura District is very much different to the district that existed earlier. If you look at the GCE Advanced Level results, when the overall pass rate percentage is 58.56%, the Ratnapura District pass rate is 61.4%. The results at Grade 5 scholarships examination also shows that when the overall pass rate is 10.12%, the Ratnapura District pass rate percentage is 12.32%. This is true development said the Minister.

Director General of Government Information Prof.Ariyarathna Athugala, Ratnapura District Secretary Sunil Tennakoon, Director Information Wasanthapriya Ramanayake, Special Media Unit Consultant Director Harindranath Chandrasiri addressed the Journalists. More than 150 Journalists in the Ratnapura District participated at the Seminar.(KH)
