More than 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities will be generated through the first phase of the Achchuveli Industrial Park in Jaffna which is to be opened by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on August 28. Over eight companies have already commenced construction of factories in the first phase of the industrial park, 25 acres in extent.
The government provided basic facilities to the park including electricity, widened roads, pipe borne water, a drainage system and waste water treatment plant
Operations at the Achchuveli Industrial Complex which was launched with the mediation of the Lanka Industrial Development Board came to a halt in the year 1986 due to terrorist activities.
