Drought relief has been awarded to 1700 sugar cane farmer families of the Sevanagala Sugar Company who experienced immense hardships as a result of the drought.
Minister Lakshman Seneviratne distributed the drought relief among the farmer families in the Sevanagala, Anandagama, Kovul-ara and Mayuragama areas.
The expenditure incurred by the Sevanagala Sugar Company on this programme was 22 million rupees.
Minister Lakshman Seneviratne said that the drought relief assistance was distributed on the instructions of the President. (ST/KH)
