Housing scheme for regional journalists commences today with laying foundation stone by the Director General of the Government Information, Attorney at Law Sudarshana Gunawardena at the Irettai Peniyakulam in the Vavunia district.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony the Director General describe this housing scheme as a promoter of reconciliation among the people since it will provide an environment to living together peacefully for all journalists belong to all three communities.
The government has recognized the ardent service render by journalists and taken steps to uplift the welfare of these professionals Mr. Gunaqwardena added.Tree planting and awareness programs also held with this event.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
