    Botanic Gardens earn Rs.219.8 Mn during first 5 months in 2014

    During the first five months of this year (2014), 159,202 foreign tourists and 865, 777 local tourists have visited botanic gardens in Sri Lanka and the revenue earned during the period is Rs.219.8 million., the Ministry of Botanical Gardens and Public Recreation revealed.

     

    According to the prevailing trend, an average number of 900 foreign tourists and 2000 local tourists visit the gardens daily. The visits, particularly during festive seasons and weekends exceeds above 4000 local visitors and 1000 foreign visitors.

     

    According to the Ministry, a large number of local and foreign tourists visit the Botanic Gardens of Sri Lanka, daily. During the period from 2005 to 2009 an average number of 100,000 foreign tourists and 1.5 million local tourists have visited the gardens annually.

     

    Accordingly it is clear that with the end of the war, visitors to the Botanic Gardens shows a constant increase. (ST/KH)
