    Sri Lanka to host Int'l Conference on Community Water Services 2014

    The Third International Conference on Community Water Services 2014 will be held at Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy, Pallekele, Kundasale in Kandy District on 22nd - 24th August 2014 under the chairmanship of Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Dinesh Gunawardena.

     

    The two-day conference titled "Water for Community Development and Prosperity" is organized by the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage together with National Community Water Trust (NCWT), National Water Supply & Drainage Board (NWSDB) and Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum (LRWHF).

     

    The conference supported by UNICEF aims to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, strategies and best practices among all stakeholders which will support to improve community water schemes in Sri Lanka as well as around the world.

     

    According to the organizers, the outcome of the Conference will have a salutary effect on the beneficiaries of the conference namely; 4,000 Community Based Organizations covering approximately 600,000 families, formed under the Community Water Supply Projects implemented by the government.

     

    A number of countries within the region such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives are expected to attend the Conference.

     

    About 500 delegates from different Community Based Organizations, Policy Makers, Researchers, Academia, UN Agencies and International Development Agencies are expected to participate in the Conference. (ST/KH)
