Minister Karunanayake said that people should put the country before self and act prudently at this critical time. Underscoring the need for the people’s commitment for the massive development programme planned for the next five years, the Minister said that the government too was making immense sacrifices.  He pointed out that rather than being concerned about short term gains, the people should commit themselves for the onward journey of the country.

The photographic exhibition depicting scenes of various locations of the Colombo City about 150 years ago will be held till Monday (14).

Speaking further after opening the exhibition, the Minister said - “Some bankrupt politicians spread falsehoods claiming that the 5000 rupee vehicle emission fee would be removed. There is absolutely no truth in such claims. Their only duty today is to raise frivolous issues for which nobody gives two hoots about.

"Even some doctors are out to scuttle the government’s programme. The vast majority of doctors are ready to make sacrifices for the success of the budget proposals and development of the country. But a handful of doctors who are still working for the former regime are trying to disrupt our efforts.  

"I appeal to the media not to propagate these falsehoods. We all have a responsibility to eradicate poverty and rise as a strong nation. I request people not to fall prey to the lies propagated by those with vested interests.”

The Mayor of Colombo A.J.M. Muzammil, Deputy Mayor Titus Perera and councilors Aluthgedara Chaminda and Tharanga Athuraliya were also present at the opening of the photographic exhibition.
